Federal Election Campaigns 2019 and 2021

To help launch Michelle Corfield’s bid to become the next Member of Parliament representing Nanaimo-Ladysmith in the 2019 Canadian federal election, we created an integrative PR and advertising campaign. We got her message out on social media, outdoor ads, newspapers, podcasts, buttons and bumper stickers. At events and online, we reached-out to residents to share Michelle’s platform and encourage voters to make informed decisions about who they want representing them in Ottawa.

RESULTS

DOUBLED VOTES for Michelle Corfield in 5 months; from the May 2019 by-election (4,515 votes) to the October 2020 General election (9,735 votes)
Kept a steady 9,340 votes in 2021

With ads on Facebook and Instagram, as well as Google and Twitter posts, a custom microsite and blog, we reached over 27, 000 potential voters over 5 weeks. Our campaign hashtag #MakingItHappen reflects Michelle’s unique ability, harnessed through her vast work experience and Doctorate in Management and Masters in Conflict Analysis and Management, to bring various groups together to reach compromises and collaborate effectively.

When we look out into our oceans and we find plastics, they’re left floating around, impeding animals, birds, fish, and we have to do better, we should leave no footprint behind. Economic diversification for Vancouver Island is critical. We have 800,000 people living here and those 800,000 people need good jobs, good jobs to keep them here and stop them from having to fly to Calgary or other parts of Canada to go to work. We want to keep our kids right here at home. So the investment that we’ve made into the marine industry at Duke Point is an example of keeping jobs in Nanaimo, that is going to create 900 jobs during construction and I am proud to be a part of that. #Nanaimo-Ladysmith #TeamTrudeau #MakingItHappen

In Nanaimo-Ladysmith, we have a significant elder population. And we need to address the things that the elders need. Such as, ensuring that they have good food, that they have safe places to call home, and that they have the care that they need. We can’t do that if we are not funding those types of programs that ensure that. We have a hospital that is in dire need of an upgrade. We have one gerontologist.
